The first match of the 2018 season for the Devon Girls was played at Axe Cliff GC against the Devon County Lady Veterans' Golf Association (DCLVGA), in lovely late March sunshine and reasonable temperatures on the first really pleasant day this year.
With 8 players competing on each side, the format was 4-ball betterball, with 4 pairs on each team. Only fielding 7 players, the Devon Girls co-opted Jill Wellington to make up the numbers. The Devon Girls recorded a very creditable win of 3 games to 1. All the games were played in very good spirit with lots of jokes and laughs amongst the players.
The Devon Girls' team was made up of Jill Wellington (honorary!), Lauren McGinnis (Churston), Jade Montier (Dainton Park), Sophie Page (Exeter), Flossy Voaden (Woodbury Park), Charlotte Husband (Team Captain, Exeter), Sophie Brown (Fingle Glen) and Carys Moris (Portmore).
Playing for the DCLVGA were Sue Ritchie, Ann Norman, Wendy Roberts, Barbara Cummings (Captain), Sandra Walker, Marcia Jones and Kay Foster. County Juniors' Organiser, Jo Donmal, was a winner and loser on the day as she played for DCLVGA but led her team of Devon Girls to victory.
After a very social time in the clubhouse, the DCLVGA kindly presented a cheque for £200 to support the Devon Girls. A hearty thank you to them and to Axe Cliff Golf Club for their hospitality.
