DCLGA Appoints A County Coach And 1st Team Manager

Over the last few of months the DCLGA has undertaken a review of the management and coaching of the three Devon County teams.  The thoughts of current players and the present management team i.e. the County Captain, Vice Captain, Junior Organiser and selectors have been taken into account. As a result a 3 year performance development plan has been drawn up with the goal of winning Match Week 2019 when it is next held in Devon. An essential part of this plan is the appointment of a County Coach and 1st Team Manager and the DCLGA is delighted to announce the appointment of Tiffany Mackenzie as County Coach and Sally Charnock as 1st Team Manager.  

 

Tiffany has recently achieved PGA level 3 status in Golf Coaching, has a PGA Membership Category Class of ‘AA’ and is the Director of Coaching at Saunton Golf Club. Her experience is extensive and has included assisting her University Coach in America, 3 years as an Academy Coach at Millfield School and coaching at the PGA Swing Zone at the British Open in 2010, 2011 and 2014. She is also a PGA Tutor and trains Assistant Professionals and volunteers to level 1 coach standard. Tiffany was a County first team player for both Wiltshire and Devon.  he was awarded a golf scholarship to study at Longwood University in Virginia USA and spent 4 years on campus, serving her final year as Captain of the Longwood University Golf Team. She won the USA North Eastern Division individual title, was a member of the team which reached the Divisional Championships in Florida and was selected by the NCAA to become a member of the All American Team in 2003. 

 

 

Sally was a Devon county player, representing the first and second team for many years and still plays off a handicap of 6 at Saunton Golf Club. She, therefore, has considerable experience of playing for the county and understands many of the issues facing players whilst playing in county teams. As Sally has written, "Together with the support of the County Captain and our professional coach, Tiffany Mackenzie, I will be looking to help develop both individual players and overall team performance to make Devon serious contenders in County Match Week, in particular, when Devon next hosts the event at Woodbury Park in 2019."

It is hoped this new and professional approach, together with the full support and commitment of the players, will make the Devon teams a force to be reckoned with in future years.
