County Teams

First Team
The County Captain, County Coach and Team Manager encourage, develop and select a squad of 12 players to represent Devon Ladies at County level with the objective of competing in the England Golf South West Inter-Counties Match Week.

This event is held annually during the first week in July and is the most important event for the Devon Ladies' First Team. The counties in the South West Division comprises of Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Wiltshire, Somerset and Gloucestershire. The six counties compete against each other in a format of three morning foursomes matches followed by six singles matches in the afternoon. It is a challenging and exciting five days of intense competition, with some great camaraderie, with the winning team qualifying for the England Golf County Finals to compete for the prestigious title of National County Champions of England.

A team player who has played for the first team against other SW Counties fourteen times will be awarded County Colours.

The selection criteria for the Devon team is based upon all round performance, in particular county matches, the County Championships, regional and national events as well as handicaps. Players are encouraged to play in the Devon County Championships for which prestigious trophies such as The Championship Bowl and The Lloyd-Williams Salver are to be won.
The program of coaching, personal development and practice matches are organised throughout the year with a particular focus on preparation for the specific Inter-Counties Match Week venue.

Second Team
The County Second Team, formed in 1937, is the main responsibility of the County Vice-Captain.

Coaching and training sessions are organised by the County Coach. Working closely with the County Coach and the Junior Organiser, the teams are selected for the various fixtures throughout the year.

Three major fixtures are played annually. The Tyler Trophy is a match played against the County Juniors on full handicap - the trophy was donated by Sally Tyler who was County Captain during the years 2004/5.

The Second Team play England Golf matches against two South West counties annually. The winner of these matches each year goes through to the final, playing the winner of the other three counties to become the Second Team England Golf South West Counties winner.
Devon play against Cornwall's second team each year, alternating home and away venues. Devon also play biannual matches against Somerset and Dorset, alternating home and away venues.

A team badge (colours), is given to a team player who has played in eight Second Team matches.
