County Teams

The DCLGA run 3 county teams, the 1st, 2nd and Junior with three selectors from different areas in the county continually on the lookout for new and improving players to join the squads. Last year the age range in the 1st team was 13 to over 50 so, as you can see, there is no age limit.  Selection is always based on ability.

The highlight of the year for the 1st team is the SW Inter-Counties Match Play competition. As the name suggests we play all the other counties in the SW region: Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Dorset, Somerset and Cornwall. This is a week long event consisting of foursomes and singles matchplay each day. The junior event is run over 3 days and is singles only.

Each county takes in turns to host the competition and in 2017 we are playing at Wrag barn, Wiltshire,  3rd-7th July, so your support will be greatly appreciated.

Throughout the year coaching and practice matches are held.  We have recently incorporated into our programme matches against a "select" ladies team, together with matches against the Palairet winners and the DCGU.

Now that the four SW counties have become six, the 2nd team have lost out on fixtures. They now play a round robin system with each county playing 2 matches and the winners going on to play a final.

Whilst emphasis is on hard work and being competitive, it is also important to focus on the enjoyment of the game and all the rewards that can be gained from being in a team enviroment.
