DAILY MAIL FOURSOMES 2017

FINALS UPDATE FROM JANET & SUE

For the Monday morning round (the last 16 pairs in the competition) we beat Gosforth Park Ladies on the 19th having to give them 4 shots. After only a 10 minute break (but our opponents were similarly rushed) we lost to Worfield 6/4 in the afternoon. Worfield got through to the final and were 4 up with 6 to play but lost it on the 18th – I think they were both exhausted as it is a physical test as well as a golfing one for ladies of a certain age.

It was a tough course but an amazing experience - and Honiton Golf Club now has 2 very tired lady members!

Unfortunately, our men Darren Morgan and Daniel Handford didn't make it through the Monday morning round but we are still very proud of them for getting to the final.

Congratulations to Honiton Golf Club's Lady Captain Janet Hughes and golfing pal Sue Ritchie who have made it through to the finals of the Daily Mail Foursomes on Monday, 9th October. It's a great achievement for the ladies, the only pairing from the South West to do so. Even more remarkable for the club is the men's pairing from Honiton, Darren Morgan and Daniel Handford, have also made it to the final - the Daily Mail Four!!!

Played at the Marriott St Pierre at Chepstow the last 16 pairs play in the morning. Winners then play their quarter final in the afternoon, semi-final on Tuesday morning and the final on Tuesday afternoon - pretty full on! Those who don't make it through to the quarter-finals play in the Champagne Foursomes event on Monday afternoon and again on Tuesday morning. Champagne - now that sounds like fun!

The Daily Mail Foursomes is the biggest amateur golf tournament in the world with some 160,000 people entering at club level. 7 rounds have to be played and won to reach the finals - that's a lot of golf. Considering that Janet is also the Lady Captain this year at Honiton it must have been a busy year all round.
