A dry day, just what we were all wishing for after the wet and windy weather experienced at the last 2 County competitions. County Captain Angie Hickey was standing by the 1st tee at 9 o’clock when the first pairing from Dainton Park teed off. She was still there just over 3 hours later to send the last pairing on their way, just as the first pairing were walking off the 18th tee.
The course was in wonderful condition and enjoyed by all the players The field was divided into 2 divisions, +-13 and 14-20. We soon realised there were some admirable gross scores being recorded, the best of the day being Keeley Clarke (1), from Torquay, the defending holder of the Stella Temple Memorial Cup. It has since transpired that Keeley’s round was a new course record at Dainton Park. There were also an unbelievable number of 2s being recorded, a total of 14! We were not allowed to show our Rolling Leaderboard, with the scores as they were being entered, as the Konta/Williams’ semi-final match was on the television.
The prize giving took place at 4.30pm and was opened with a very warm welcome by the Dainton Park Ladies' Captain Caron Ward, and the prizes were awarded by County Captain Angie. The Captain’s Prize for the best nett score on selected hidden holes was won by Frances Harbron (Okehampton).
