County Seniors’ Championship at Churston on 29th June 2017

Congratulations to Vicky Holloway (5), Torquay Golf Club,  on becoming the first DCLGA Seniors' Champion with a gross 75 at the re-arranged DCLGA Seniors' Championship at Churston Golf Club.

Vicky's gross 75 was 4 shots ahead of Yelverton's Gilly Jarvis (5) with a gross 79.  Ely Walmsley (Holsworthy) was third after shooting 82.

Maureen Postles (Tiverton) won the Handicap Trophy with a nett 69 by. virtue of a better back 9 from Wendy George (Tavistock) who also had a nett 69.

Once again the recent weather had not been promising but, thankfully, everyone turned up at Churston GC for the rescheduled inaugural County Seniors’ Championships.  We were warmly welcomed by Churston’s Ladies' Captain and also the Club Captain, Chris Wills, who ably assisted our County Captain, Angie Hickey, on the 1^st tee throughout the morning.

We had field of 34 ladies, playing in twos and in handicap order, all dressed for the drizzle. The first pairing were sent on their way 20 minutes late off the 1^st tee as unexpected roadworks just outside the golf club caused a very lengthy tail-back!  The course was in lovely condition and the first competitiors started to reappear back in the club house just over 3 hours later, dressed in shirt sleeves and shorts.

Prize giving took place at 4.30pm and was opened with a very warm welcome by the Churston Ladies' Captain, Jacquie Bayley. County President Ann Legg presented the prizes.

2s:  There were no 2s so 3 cards were drawn.

NB:  The initial CSS for this competition was calculated by the computer as 76 with reductions only.  This was later noticed to be inaccurate and subsequently amended to 73.  It is advised that all who took part in this competition check that the correct CSS has been retained and if necessary remove the CSS 76.  If your club has not uploaded the CSS 76 then the corrected one should override it and your handicap should reflect this and be correct.
