Another dry day greeted me at the Warren together with the band of Warren ladies and gentlemen ready to assist with car park duties, spotting and marking. The hydrangeas in County colours made a lovely display on the prize table and the caterers were busy preparing food ready for the 120 ladies to arrive.
We had late arrivals and no shows from the outset but eventually all was well thanks to the Warren ladies acting as markers. County Captain Alison started the first of the 60 pairs off and County Vice Captain Angie took over later in the morning.
The Silver pairs started returning to the Clubhouse around midday and scores of 39 and 40 were posted very early on. There was a positive buzz in the Clubhouse as the ladies in their club colours prepared to enjoy the excellent food on offer. No time for me to collect any blackberries this year…
The scores continued to impress throughout the morning and the Okehampton pair of Sue Williams and Penny Deakin posted a score of 43 points mid way through the competition. This was the winning score in the Silver Division. At 1430 County Captain Alison presented Penny and Sue with the Silver Warren Crocus Salver.

The last of the Bronze pairs went out around 1230 and they also kept up a good pace. The Torquay pairing of Gill Balsdon and Val Banks posted a score of 43 points early on and this remained the best score of the day until the final pairing of Bee Baker and Margaret Whittaker from Libbaton came in with 46 points. The prediction of Gill and Val made early in the day that they would be pipped to the post by the last group proved correct.
When the prize giving took place at 1730 it was good to see so many of the players had stayed to see County Captain Alison present Bee and Margaret with the Bronze Warren Crocus Salver.

The new format of Greensomes not only shortened the day for everyone more importantly all the players enjoyed the new format. The day was very enjoyable and my grateful thanks to all the Warren ladies who made it such a success.
