Express and Echo Shield Finals Exeter Golf and Country Club Thursday 8th September

The day began bright and sunny although the keen wind was evident for County Captain and County Vice-Captain Alison and Angie on the first tee starting the players. The first of the 136 ladies were sent on their way at 0830.

The ladies were armed with cards and code numbers for various locks around the course including the “comfort stop”. Can I apologise to the ladies who on arrival at the “comfort stop” were unable to gain entry as the number given to us was incorrect. I do hope it didn’t cause too much “inconvenience”.

The course was looking wonderful and the ladies who played were very complementary about the new lay out of the course, although the bunkers on the 17th didn’t seem that popular!! The 18th looked glorious with the water feature and the lovely gardens alongside.  All the Exeter ladies made everyone very welcome and many of the players could be seen catching up with friends and enjoying their food and drink on the terrace in the sunshine. My special thanks to Kate who helped me out throughout the day.

The score of 36 was the lead score for quite some time until mid morning when Anne Woodger and Jane Cornelius from Fingle Glen posted a score of 40 which remained the leading score throughout the day. The mother and daughter pairing of Amanda & Abigail Moyes from Tiverton, who are becoming quite a double act, were second with 38 points.

The prize giving took place at 1630 and it was good that so many players had stayed to see Anne and Jane from Fingle Glen collect the Express and Echo Shield from our President Ann.
